(October 5, 2017) At 5:12 a.m. Thursday morning the Palma-Briensburg and East Marshall Fire departments were dispatched to a report of a structure fire located in the 1400 block of US Highway 68 East near the Briensburg community.
First responding units arrived at 5:19 a.m. and reported heavy smoke showing outside the residence. At 5:21 a.m. fire had extended through the roof of the home. Two persons were home at the time of the fire and reported being awakened by the activated smoke detector. The residence occupants exited the home prior to the fire department’s arrival. The occupants reported no injuries but were assessed by Marshall County EMS personnel. Additional mutual aid assistance was provided by the City of Benton Fire department and Marshall County Rescue squad.
Animals from the residence were taken into temporary custody of Marshall County Animal Control. Emergency response personnel extinguished the fire and cleared the scene at 9:26 a.m. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time, but the fire chief reports the damage to the home as extensive.
