1850’s Christmas at the Homeplace
Nov. 25: Step back in time to the smell of pine needles and gingerbread as the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm and Living History Museum celebrates Christmas in 1850 at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, 1–4pm, Nov. 25. “Everyone is invited to join and see how farm family celebrated the Christmas season.” says lead Homeplace interpreter Cindy Earls. Enjoy the traditional music by Dixie Volunteers as we welcome Santa Claus! Learn how to make 1850 era Christmas decorations, help decorate the farm’s Christmas tree in the Parlor, sample holiday treats and recipes to make at home.

Calvert City Annual Christmas Bazaar
Dec. 2: Calvert City Christmas Bazaar will be held Saturday, December 2 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Calvert City Civic Center on Fifth Avenue. 10 x 10 booths available for $25 each. Duplicate merchandise by national vendors not allowed (ie: Scentsy, Tupperware, etc.) Booth rental proceeds benefit Calvert-Sharpe Family Resource center. Calvert City Lighted Christmas Parade – “Stories of Christmas”
Dec. 2: The Calvert City Lions Club will again sponsor the annual “longest continuous running” Christmas parade in Kentucky. This is the 58th year and will take place Saturday, December 2, 2017.
The lighted parade participants will line up in the parking lot of Pathway Baptist Church beginning at 4:15 p.m. Between 4:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. floats will be judged and cash prizes awarded. The parade will step off at 5:15 p.m. at the intersection of 5th Avenue and Main Street and will continue along 5th Avenue to the Calvert City Civic Center, led by Grand Marshals Joe and Karen Owen.
The theme of this year’s parade is “Stories of Christmas”. Following the parade, floats will be exhibited at the Calvert City Civic Center where hot dogs, popcorn, and hot chocolate will be served to the public and the annual Christmas tree lighting will be held at Memorial Park. Santa will also be available for visits at the Civic Center and children may also visit with our newest character, Merry, the Christmas Fairy.
Learn the Art of Needle Felting
Dec. 4: Needle felting is the art of sculpting wool with special barbed needles. Stabbing the wool over and over again mashes the wool fibers together, creating a firm, textile object. Each sculpture starts with a wool base and shapes of wool are added and smoothed with a felting needle to create a 3-D object. Monday, December 4. Choose your time of 1:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. Making a 3D needle felted snowman. Limited to 10 participants. Must be over 10 years old due to felting needles being very sharp. Cost is $15. Community Church Services Calvert City
Calvert City Community Church is meeting at the Calvert City Civic Center each Sunday. Bible Study is at 10 am, Fellowship is at 10:30, and Worship Service is at 10:45 am. All are welcome to attend. We are a non-denominational church who love the Lord and his word.
Lourdes providing free monthly Advance Directives seminar
Dec. 6: Lourdes will offer a free monthly Advance Directives Seminar in the Heritage Room on the first floor of Lourdes Hospital. The seminar will be from 2 – 3:30 p.m. Advance Directives documents your wishes concerning medical treatments at the end of life. This seminar will help answer questions, clarify concerns related to Advance Directives and also help you complete your living will and have it documented in your medical records.
